Following on from a whole bunch of Augmented Reality posts this week, it seemed fitting to include this, the Parrot Carrot Safari, a very cool digital extension to a new Australian Kids book, in the form of an Augmented Reality iPhone app that lets kids interact and extend book’s content.

I don't think there's a killer app. This is more like the next touchscreen for mobile phones – more like the next user interface revolution."

Qualcomm had recently released their Augmented Reality Software Development Kit (SDK) for iOS. The SDK had originally been available for Android but Qualcomm had promised its release in July for iOS. The SDK should make it easier for developers to integrate virtual content with real content such as images captured by cameras found on many portable devices.

Apple was awarded on Tuesday a patent for an augmented reality system that combines the real world with computer-generated imagery.

The concept is called “Window to the World,” and it allows the user to interact with the world outside the window by tracing and drawing with his or her fingers on the window in an augmented reality kind of way

Although AR is not new, it is still in infancy especially applying in education.  As an educator, I think AR has great potentials in teaching and learning.
